Good Morning all

Lovely drive to work – took all of 30mins

Better than Monday with the M4 madness (effected the A4) – that took 50 mins!!

Reported that to Reading 107 with how bad it was – nice to report to them today how good it was, they always mention it with my name – oh the fame of it all!!

Right that’s started a Chat Thread going………………….

John can decide where to put it so we all know

Well done OM, I was going to do it but you beat me to it.
I think that the last line of your post could lead to some astute remarks!
There is no reason why it could not stay as an active topic, if it is used it will stay near the top of the list, and if it is not sed it will sink into oblivion!
The key to its success will be if it is used for chat and not just 'good mornings'
So, Good Morning everyone, I hope that the day is kind to you.

This chat thing could work well – ‘IF’ as stated, we use it properly!

So – spent some of this morning beating / whipping the apprentice to do his job properly, only joking, we have been discussing the way forward with some new design projects I have him working on for me

The rest has been doing paperwork (boring) for the same projects so counting down the last bit of this hour until 12:30 when we can go for a pint / egg ‘n’ chips over the Bird in Hand just out the back of our place!

Afternoon all! Busy here, quoting some large projects for existing and new clients, just need to keep fingers crossed that they come in.

Have just been for a mooch around town to see if we can find some new specs for OH . . . found some nice Ralph Lauren ones which aren't too expensive . . . it's just the nearly £500 for his specialist lenses that's going to hurt :bigeyes1: Spicy chicken fajita from M&S for lunch at the PC and shortly back to work planning our social media strategy for the business. Can we have a 'frantically typing at computer keyboard' smiley please :-)

However the one good thing about this thread is that there can be no :offtopic1: accusations as basically anything is on-topic!

So, what have I been doing today so far?
Well, apart from getting out of bed and having some breakfast, reading the obviously interesting bits in the newspaper and then having a shower, I had a bit of a brain storm and started the HS2 thread which seems to have invoked a fair bit of discussion so far, so I count that as a plus.
I have been wrestling with some sums in preparation for contacting HMRC to try to sort out a muddle that they seem to have made with my tax (or maybe it was me who made the muddle!)
I have cooked and eaten lunch and washed up.
I have also spent far to long on line reading various posts.
What a thrilling day!

Well enjoyed lunch and a drop of Falova Juice!

Been back at the paperwork but worryingly watching an extremely black cloud going overhead from roughly North and heading South

No rain as yet but it looks bad!

Weird as the other direction is brilliant sunshine – odd light effect though!

All of you working today spare a thought for my son. He was asked to go for an interview on Tuesday and felt that it had gone well. They gave him a task to complete by Friday and he spent all of yesterday working on it. Today he had a call to tell him they gave the job to someone else, even before they received his work. He's so completely downcast that I could cry for him. It cost him nearly £100 to get to Manchester for the interview, which isn't reimbursed so he's out of pocket, too. He despairs of ever finding a job in his chosen field and I'm angry for him that they wasted his time. To his great credit he won't claim unemployment benefits he takes any work he can get through agencies, mostly driving, but he can't face the thought that he's going to be doing this for the rest of his life. I don't know how we're going to keep him going after this,he's completely lost heart.

Oh Liz, that is utterly disgusting! It is not a lot of compensation but perhaps a company that behaves like that is not worth working for anyway! I do hope that he can find a job soon. What is his line?

Re: Chat Thread

thats bad...they might have at least waited fro friday so he thought he got a fair go at it!

tell him to sign on, if he is entitled to the benfits he should have them, much better than them going to someone not entitled!

Oh that's very poor Liz - how frustrating for him.... the one bright side is that if they've got such appaling manners he's best out of it anyway - so perhaps that's some compensation?

What's his 'chosen field' - just possibly there may be someone here who can throw a line - and also why not at least claim Job-seekers allowance - after all that's what he's doing to his credit - no shame in that.

My son, and his wife were both made redundant at the end of November. Not quite so bad for her as she was only working part-time for the same company, so can probably find another ''little job' - but they're in Herne Bay, very worrying though.

He's a copy writer,pi. He works freelance when he can but he really needs a full time job. He has a degree in journalism etc etc but nothing seems to help. Gone are the days of joining a paper as a copy boy and working your way up. He writes music reviewsand press releases among other things. Anybody out there needing a good, hard working copy writer/publiscist point them in his direction, please!

Well Liz - as you say things may have changed - but I'd have thought this area/Maidenhead/London would be a fairly good hunting ground - who/what has he tried locally?

He's been trying mainly in London up til now, this latest one was in Manchester and what makes it worse is that THEY approached HIM after seeing his online cv.There don't seem to be as many advertising agencies in Reading as there used to be. Sadly I haven't any contacts now, at one time I could have put work his way from people I worked freelance for but they've all gone. He's determined not to sign on as he really wants to work,he gets so bored. He applies for jobs and 9 times out of 10 doesn't even get an acknowledgement. He's even been to interviews and not heard whether or not he's got the job. My husband gets very annoyed,he can't believe that companies are so rude, when he used to interview people his company always paid their expenses and wrote telling them if they weren't successful. Unfortunately now they know that there are so many applicants fora position they don't need to bother.

yes, I was thinking the same Liz.... but I will have a think as to who maybe a contact to follow. Like your husband I always followed up an interview - plain courtesy in my book :shrug1:

Presumably he has contacted, or doesn't want to work with local newspapers (not only in Reading). I also did a lot of copy-writing when I had my Studio business, everything and anything in subject matter..... as I say, I'll think on....

How kind of you,pi. The sad thing is that while I was working I managed to get a friend's son a work placement at an agency in Reading and he went on to work in the business and did very well but now I can't do the same for my own son !

Morning all – just finished a lovely hot cheese roll whilst waiting for the company system to fire up, it was late starting again today!!

Must say Liz I sympathise with your sons plight, having been made redundant twice in my working life but would say definitely sign on even if doing temp work as they do help those that really want to work

My real gripe is the attitude people take, when you apply for jobs, when you are out of work compared to trying to move from an existing position - it all seems to change as if they are doing you a favour and you suddenly become a lesser person!

And as for not hearing anything I used to re-contact them and scaremonger – told them that being signed on, the social wanted to know why I did not get a job and I had to report it back and keep records so I needed ‘’written’’ evidence of such

Some fell for it and wrote back – a couple even gave a second interview!!

And STG just what do you put on your upper lip to stiffen it?

Quick question . . . do we plan to continue this thread now for subsequent days or start a new one for today (and each day after that)?

I agree – if we keep it continuous it should always be at the top of the new posts

If it gets too big it could be edited down with old stuff removed

OK - thanks Pi. Just asking because again, on the other cat-related forum we start a new thread for each day and named them as such. Just enables everyone to keep track of things more easily. But I'm more than happy to go with whatever the 'management' decides here :-)

I also was it as a continuing thread, there is no real need to start a fresh one each day. After all, someone might need to refer back to something that was said yesterday, or someone who didn't log into the forum for a couple of days might like to catch up with the foregoing chat without having to find and open previous topics.
