Legendary ex-Reading boss Steve Coppell is set to be announced as manager of Bristol City today and could make Royals captain Ivar Ingimarsson his first signing.
Coppell, Reading's most successful-ever manager in the club's 139-year history, left at the end of last season after failing to guide the club back into the Premier League. The 54-year-old has been out of football for nearly a year, but has been working as a TV pundit with ITV on their coverage of the FA Cup. It is expected that Coppell will not formally take charge until the end of the season and Keith Millen, who replaced Gary Johnson as caretaker boss earlier this month, will be named as his number two.
Coppell will want to rebuild the Robins' squad and he described Inigmarsson as his best ever signing at Madejski Stadium, having previously worked with the centre-back at Brentford as well. Currently out for four months with a hamstring injury, Ingimarsson is still not happy that he will drop to a pay as you play deal in the summer, and Reading have yet to offer him that he feels is adequate. The 32-year-old centre-back is not looking for a move away from Berkshire, but the Reading Post understands that Royals would allow him to leave this summer and would name Matt Mills as captain.
