Yeh – just imagine Ikea on a match day – it would be horrendous!

IKEA in Milton Keynes is very near the football stadium, with an Asda in between. You can hear the football crowd from the IKEA car park. Gates are much smaller than Reading's, but the capacity is about a quarter more.

This is still going - http://wortongrange.org/?p=1 - and the planning went in 05/2014 - http://planning.reading.gov.uk/fastweb_ ... mit=Search

And it seems to be on-going with more environmental investigations

An empty business site in Reading could be redeveloped with up to 200 homes and a Premier Inn hotel.

The ambitious plans for Worton Grange, the old home of Hewlett Packard in Imperial Way, are set to be submitted to Reading Borough Council later this month.

They are also set to include plans for a drive-through restaurant, a bank and car showrooms.

The site has been empty since 2006, after HP moved its head office to Bracknell and is currently used as a car parking area for Reading FC fans.

Developer Kier is hoping to get detailed planning permission for the redevelopment of the southwestern section of the site, and outline permission for the north-eastern part of the site.

If successful, the firm hopes work will start early next year.

Development manager Ioan Rees said: “Having worked closely with Reading Borough Council we believe our proposed redevelopment for retail, hotel, car showroom, trade counter/light industrial and residential uses will see this strategic site transformed into a desirable mixed-use location, providing much-needed housing and creating local jobs.”

Can someone merge the reading gateway thread, this this one, and change the title to "Worton Grange / Reading Gateway"?

Any news on this? http://www.readinggateway.co.uk/ shows that there was a public consultation back in september, but nothing else.

Whoops, well it looks like the developer hasn't been paying their fee's. The reading gateway website is offline.

That said, it looks like planning permission was given to Kier for the site...

Plans to build homes, a hotel and a drive-through bank on the vacant site of a former computer company in Reading have been approved.
Developer Kier is to redevelop the former Hewlett Packard site at Worton Grange at a cost of £75m.

Another update from getreading about the hotel being built

Image
A new hotel which includes a restaurant and a drive-through coffee shop will soon be constructed in Whitley.

Premier Inn has signed a lease deal with developers Kier Property and it will take charge of the 120-bed hotel once it is built in Worton Grange, as part of the Reading Gateway development.

The hotel, which is due to be completed in winter 2017, will house a Beefeater restaurant and a Costa Coffee drive-through.

As part of the £75 million Reading Gateway development , Kier Property will also build 175 homes, 12 retail units, two car showrooms, a pub and a bank on the former Hewlett Packard site.

It looks like the Premier Inn and Beefeater will be opening soon.

The hotel is listed on the Premier Inn website:

and I see Beefeater are advertising for staff as well.

Using Fed-up's link the first day it shows up in their website as able to book a room is 13th February - £38 if you want to try it. It's quite possible that they will have a soft opening in advance of that date for staff training and to sort out problems before the public are let loose.

The Burger King drive thru is almost complete. This is long awaited for me as I can’t stand McDonalds and their slip anymore.

Drove past this earlier and the permanent Beefeater signage was starting to appear on the outside of the hotel, so I guess the opening date is not a long way away.

We are looking at office/warehouse space on this development - proposed building looks a bit like the ones in the illustration above with 'signs' on the front.

This will be great for me as I can cycle to work when the weather is good!
