Re: Reasons to be Cheerful! Good things that happened today
That’s what I do with home made soups Liz. My good deed for the day, which kind of counts for a reason to be cheerful as well, is I managed to get two bags of SR flour for the MIL. As the FIL has been poorly for several weeks and they’ve been locked down in isolation, the only thing that tempts his appetite are her rock cakes and sponges. She’s well pleased, so that’s good.

My good neighbour has just purchased a 20ft aluminium ladder from me, so he got 5lbs of big spuds thrown in. His wife said they are perfect for chips and was very pleased. We don't do deep frying.

I am glad your dentists are opening soon. No such luck here and then there will probably be a six month wait as they totally cancelled my two appointments .
My good news was that the timber to rebuild our park bench arrived a day early but in 4.8 metre lengths, not the 2.4 on the delivery note." That's all we have mate." A saw point?
All cut up now with help from my mate. Just waiting for stainless coach bolts from Ebay.

We’ve just been to another garden centre and bought a lot of plants when it came to paying the card machine wouldn’t log on, it’s in the middle of nowhere and the signal is very poor. She gave me the bank details and said to pay when I got home. She’d never met me before but she didn’t even take my name, address or anything just said ‘you look honest’ ! I have now paid of course but how nice was that?

I was so despondent a couple of weeks ago, I’d made up my mind that we wouldn’t be able to go to the GC and I was really sad. I feel much better now

Just now, there were at least a dozen kites swooping low over a neighbours flat roof. Saw one of them pick up something and fly off with it. There are still six right overhead of me now. Far too fast to picture but what a sight!

You’d get some great picture Liz. The Alledged has a good camera but just not fast enough to capture them. I have a feeling there may be some scraps on the roof. Bit naughty but well worth it for the view. They are around her all day, riding the thermals, but haven’t come down so low before.

A lot of business's are working on trust nowadays, the products we get from the butcher in a village a few miles away (who we have never used before so they don't know us) is paid for by phone after the delivery, and both the timber yard and engineering supplier local to us just leave phone orders outside on the pavement or window ledge for collection. It seems strange seeing things like lawn mowers, bags of cement, paint, nuts/bolts, power tools etc out on the pavement with pedestrians stepping around them!

Life goes on. The swans on Whiteknights Lake are now the proud parents of a couple of cygnets.

If you walk around the campus at the weekend you can see the bloke who uses the swans as a reason to talk to international students and then offers to proof-read their dissertations - for a fee of coursechris_j_wood wrote: ↑30 May 2020 22:12 Life goes on. Anyway a friend gave me a wine box they weren’t a fan of (bought two) so that’s a reason to be cheerful. In their words it’s “drinkable if you’ve already drunk a bottle”, in my words “it’s an enjoyable Sauvignon blanc and tastes so much better when it’s free”.
a reason to be cheerful!
a reason to be cheerful!
Re: Reasons to be Cheerful! Good things that happened today
My reason to be cheerful is in the shape of a rose...last year I had my heart set on one called Nostalgia....and a good friend gave me a David Austin voucher so I could buy it...At the same time I bought two other roses and they duly arrived as bare root plants in November and were planted up.
The two other roses have thrived, but Nostalgia is having a sulk, it's alive but not happy....
( I think it's something to do with them being chilled to store and it affects the sugar in the cells, it will be OK but take time )
This morning I went to the plant chap in Cookham and lo and behold a perfect Nostalgia rose....I'm very pleased and will be able to email a photo to the friend that bought it for me....and I can nurse the other plant along until it either improves or gives up

Damn . They are sly birds. Tried putting some chicken bones out on my back lawn . Gave up watching after an hour. Suddenly three have just swooped down, but too late to get them on camera. So quick !Voiceoftreason? wrote: ↑29 May 2020 18:03 Just now, there were at least a dozen kites swooping low over a neighbours flat roof. Saw one of them pick up something and fly off with it. Getting harassed by a cheeky crow as well! They’ve got immense eyesight to spot food from such heights. You have to lay in wait for them and run multi frames probably MJ

Congratulations to the Progress Theatre Company for being awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. Well deserved.
