Noticing a new feature of the forum today. Everytime I make a post, I get redirected to a 'DDOS Protection' screen with what looks like an enforced wait, before being redirected back to the completed post.
Is this something new that we have switched on?. Anything to be concerned about?. Are others seeing it?.
[Edit to say that I didn't get this effect when I did this post, so maybe something transient]
DDOS Protection
Re: DDOS Protection
Yes, I noticed it as well, also, I have a YouTube video playing in another window, and it stalled while it was doing it.
Re: DDOS Protection
See my earlier post in Chat... we were apparently ‘invaded’ by ‘users’ in the US - so Digi has applied some more security measures. I’ll ask him to explain.

Re: DDOS Protection
I assumed it was the system checking that everyone is "Kosher" after the recent attack.

Re: DDOS Protection
Hi All,
I'm really sorry about this - for reasons unknown to me, Reading Forum appears to have attracted the attention of DDOS and various "bad" crawlers (Google it!). I blocked the whole USA for a while where these attacks come from, but, aware we have users from over the pond, I unblocked it, and the attacks started again. We're already using Cloudflare, but it's finding the right balance between functionality and security.
Unfortunately I don't have time to really dig into what's going on here today; for now, though, these occasional "interstitial" pages seem to be keeping us up and running. I realise it's a slight inconvenience, but they're only occasional and it keeps us up!
I have no idea why, after so many years, a small town forum would attract this unwanted attention. Some people have way too much time on their hands!
I'll keep an eye on things....

Re: DDOS Protection
I've had a tweak, blocked more baddies and turned off the DDOS protection - let's see how it goes... fingers crossed!

Re: DDOS Protection
Thanks digi - I’d rather be safe than potentially loose the forum to Goblins.
Disclaimer: it wasn't me as wot said it, it was my iPad spellchecker!
Re: DDOS Protection
Good grief yes VoT - know one wants a loose forum overrun with goblins.[sic]

Re: DDOS Protection
I've not had any "down" alerts since; has the speed and response been reasonable for everyone over the last week?

Re: DDOS Protection
Seems to be happening again today. Why would anyone want to attack our forum website?!!
It'll be good to learn more about cyber attacks lol
