I'm assuming RBC will sign this off and we can finally get on with starting phase 1.

I’m very much looking forward to their “activated public realm”, whatever that is.
Re: Station Hill 2
Proposals for an 18-storey office block and park near Reading railway station have been given planning permission. The 125m (410ft) building is part of the £750m redevelopment of Station Hill. Building work on One Station Hill is set to begin in spring and is due to be completed in 2024. Reading Borough Council approved the plans, submitted by developer Lincoln MGT, during a planning meeting on Wednesday.

Re: Station Hill 2
Thats good to read. It'll give the town a great boost but hopefully the occupiers encourage use of public transport for its occupants.
Re: Station Hill 2
Always thought this looked a good idea, and presentable – it give a good link between the station and TC – unlike the current choice of walking along Station Rd or Blagrave St

Re: Station Hill 2
Great news. That’ll add to the skyline without upsetting too many people, although I hope we see some top the 20 story mark! I think there are proposals for a 23 story?

Careful - somebody probably said something similarly optimistic/jubilant when they put the scaffolding up around the churchyard wall at St Laurence's in the Forbury!Frank Blank wrote: ↑18 Jun 2021 16:55Up in Reading a couple of days ago and it looked as if they were starting putting up scaffolding aoround the car park.

Posts like these are exactly why I stopped using this forum about a year ago. What I'd like to know is, on the artists impression, they've put in 3 outdoor table tennis tables on possibly the windiest part of Reading town centre. Do you think they'll actually go ahead with them? It's just those ping pong balls will go everywhere...

A work of demolition beauty. A shame this monstrosity couldn't have been removed years earlier. Still, better late than never.

Re: Station Hill 2
Funny but I remember this being built in the mid-late 70’s and it was one I used a lot as cheapest in Reading at the time - until NCP took it over and the fees trebled over-night!

Re: Station Hill 2
Only parked my car in there once. Was on pins all day in case it got knicked. Car cost me £500 (and six months in the rain) but even so.... Garrard Street didn’t have the best of reputations IIRC.
Disclaimer: it wasn't me as wot said it, it was my iPad spellchecker!
Re: Station Hill 2
I used it as convenient for what I wanted at the time, later on was due to its height restriction being quite ‘high’ so get I could get my Land Rover in, before that I had to park it in the open car park where Metal Box got built
It wasn’t long after NCP took over nearly all the car parks, and the fees had gone up, I stopped driving into town if I could help it

Garrard street car park smelt of wee.
Re: Station Hill 2
Station Hill is racing ahead now. The Friars Walk apartments are well underway, and it was in the news this week that the first office building, on the old car park site, has begun construction too.
In other news, the Cosmo building (ex Halfords) adjacent to Friars Walk is proposed for development. I attended an online exhibition on those plans this evening, and here's a write up:

Interesting read. Especially the dig at people commenting on articles without reading them. Something I would never do, of course.peterson wrote: ↑03 Mar 2022 22:48 In other news, the Cosmo building (ex Halfords) adjacent to Friars Walk is proposed for development. I was a bit puzzled by the reference to roof gardens on the first floor (Cosmo’s roof) as none of the images show anything remotely single-story, and the only one showing a roof-garden seems to show quite a few floors below it.
Re: Station Hill 2
Thanks Chris.
The first floor roof is quite small and will be nearly always in shade. You can just see it at the corner of this image.

Don't judge me by the newspaper I read
Re: Station Hill 2
Talking of light I don’t recall hearing anymore about the moron on Friar street moaning about his "loss of light" and threatening legal action.
Apart from when we mentioned it way back on this thread as it made the news at the time

Re: Station Hill 2
Oh I see. If I've got the orientation of that image right, then Friar Street is the large street at the left, and the new Station Hill pedestrian route is more or less invisible at the back of the image. So that single-story bit has no street frontage, presumably overlooking the the service yard accessible off Merchants Place just uphill of Milk.peterson wrote: ↑04 Mar 2022 12:12 Thanks Chris.

Re: Station Hill 2
does anyone know if the new the new footbridge over garrard street to create a 'level' walkway to the station is high enough for double deck buses.
would be great to possibly have friar street one way again, the town centre street furniture is knackered the town is badly lit at night and the amount of useless clutter in the street must be a nightmare for vips
the town does unfortunatly due to antisocial behaviour need to be lit like a football field if it can all be pointed down.
