Any recommendations for Carpet/Furniture cleaners?

We need to clean the carpets and 3-piece suite. A chap who lives nearby did them last time a few years ago, but unfortunately (for us) has now retired.

Either we use another 'chap' or buy a good Steam Carpet/Upholstery Clearner - we did have a Vax, which was hard work and not very effective -
any personal recommendations on either option ?

Did you find anyone Pi. Just been told that the youngest has been sick all over the 6 month old rug in the lounge and also the sofa. Hoping I could find someone to come and clean them ASAP... We have people for lunch on Sunday!

Thanks we found a friend with a rug doctor and it seems. To have done the job.

I have tried the local steam carpet cleaning service offered here. It had quite good results removing a couple of pet stains and refreshing the carpet
